As the first African American woman elected to Congress, Barbara has consistently used her platform to champion policies that uplift marginalized communities and promote equity. She was recently elected Mayor of Oakland, California.

Barbara Lee represented California’s 12th District for many years and was the highest ranking African American woman appointed to Democratic Leadership, serving as Co-Chair of the Policy and Steering Committee. She served on both the Budget and Appropriations Committees, overseeing all federal government spending.

She now serves at Mayor of Oakland, California.
