Weekly Roundup – David Quammen, Ian Cheney, Bruce Campbell, Jaha Dukureh

Happy Wednesday! And, for the students and educators out there – welcome back to classes! Let’s see what our speakers are up to this week:

There’s a fun interview in the Boston Globe with David Quammen, about the release of his new book about Yellowstone Park. He mentions that his morning reading includes “Origin of Eukaryotic Cells” by Lynn Margulis. I can barely make it through the Globe in the morning!

The Asian Society takes note of Ian Cheney’s documentary film The Search for General Tso, which looks at the popular (in the U.S.) Chinese takeout dish, and discovers that people in China have never heard of it!

Bruce Campbell sums up the paradox of his best-known character Ash Williams: “He’s an idiot, but he’s not stupid” in this fun on-line interview.

Jaha Dukureh makes an eloquent statement of purpose for her efforts to end FGM. Well worth a read …
